And why does Jesus have a damn white beard!?? If a person is perfect, he's supposed to never grow old, right??

A picture of a WT dream
by Sour Grapes inpeople stay jehovah's witnesses for several reasons.
the foremost is because they are taught that they could cheat death and not have to die or even better yet not have to get old.
the second is they can see their dead relatives again , who have a direct pass to paradise, and that we must obey to get there to see them in the resurrection.

How did you feel when you got baptised? Seriously....
by stuckinarut2 inso recently, several over-righteous ones in the cong were discussing "how amazing it felt when they got baptised".
statements like "how awesome did it feel as you got raised back out of the water?!".
or the classic "i felt so close to jehovah as i came out of the pool"!.

Brujadelsol, you said something which was very similar to the way I felt. Because the baptism happened so fast! It was so anti-climatic compared to all the great build up towards it. Afterward I couldn't help feeling like I had been in some sort of assembly line process. I blamed myself for not being spiritual enough or taking time to pray, etc.

Is this is something new in this picture, too? -- they are showing people with HOBBIES!! There are people sailing, fishing, and even setting up a tripod for photography.
If you see a JW doing any of that stuff today, you'd wonder at their (low) spiritual condition and how much time they might be spending in these terrible time-wasting, refuse-like pursuits!
Bah!

Two pet peeves of mine
by Sour Grapes inthere are two things that just drive me crazy.
one is that the art work in the watchtower is treated like they are actual still photo's taken thousands of years ago.
your will hear comments about look at the smiles on their faces or the sadnees or happiness in their eyes, or notice the reaction of the crowd, etc.

Yes, and they carry clubs, too! Even modern day revilers! You can surely see this is evidence of their Satanic thinking. Headbands. Snarls. Raised fists, or clubs, lol. with maybe a drunk person lying on the ground, usually female. And maybe a Ouija board.
Do you see? Do you see how real this picture is? Do you see how it perfectly represents reality? Do you see from this picture that this is the way things are?
Geez. What goons. Goons running a pretty good scam, though. :(

And Magnum, not just the bible, but any declared "book of wisdom". I would have liked to have spent that time taking a look also at Jung, Taoism, I Ching, bhadgad Vita (or whatever it's called)' Bhuddism, the Koran, Islam, native beliefs, Wicca, the whole lot of human wisdoms and knowledge and stupidities too. But I just don't have the energy or inclination any more. Now I just want to enjoy my grandchildren and live my life, what is left of it! :)

"... And we can see from this picture on page (whatever), that worldly people always wear headbands when they want to riot or incite a riot."

Your favourite WTS publication?
by LoveUniHateExams ini realise that starting this thread may make me as popular as a ginger stepchild but was there any wts publication that you liked, or at least comfortably tolerated?.
my memory may be deceiving me but i think the greatest man book was pretty good, leaving out the gruesome detail of the crucifixtion and wts doctrine.. also, can anyone tell me the list of books that ray franz authored/co-authored?.
thanks.

I really liked "Choosing the Best Way of Life" and an older book called, "What Has Religion Done for Mankind?" At the time I loved to hear other religions slammed. I guess it "upbuilt" me. *insert hysterical/insane laughter*
Nowadays I like anything with lots of pictures in them. Those WT artists! How scarifying! How many scenes of death and destruction can they depict? How many faces can they paint into a dress (or tree or hand, etc.) ! How many bowls of fruit can they place on top of heads and tables? How many wheelbarrows might there be in paradise? How many scenes of grimacing people (for whatever reason) ? It is all so fascinating now, lol. I guess WT / JWorg is heading in the right direction with all the visuals and large white margins. But the art now is disappointingly water-colored and faded, no more (or not many) Bambi/Disney style artists.

Flipper, thank you so much for your endorsements of Hassan's books. I have only read the first one, CCMC, but I still feel so messed up some days. It would be good to recognize the methods of high control groups/cults and understand them better. I also want to better recognize logical fallacies and to sharpen my critical thinking skills, which have lain dormant for so long.
It is also for those reasons above that I enjoy PunkOfNice's comments so much, he often breaks down the flawed statements of the WTS and describes the logical fallacies and tactics used. -- aside -- PunkOfNice, if you are reading this, THANK YOU for doing that! It helps me very much.
Thank *all* of you so much! :)
